Abstract :

“The Divergences of the Cooperative and Manners Principle in the Open Meetings ofSurabaya City Regional Representatives Council” is the title of this study which isaimed to describe (1) the types of the cooperative principle divergences in SurabayaCity open official meetings, and (2) the types of the manner principle divergences inSurabaya City open official meetings. The sources of this research are taken from theutterances of Surabaya City Council and its invited guests. The research is focused onthe problem of cooperative principle and manner principle in the open meetings ofSurabaya City Council department which is studied through its pragmatic aspects. Thedata were obtained by using the method of seeing, recording, writing, and speaking.Descriptive qualitative data processing was used to analyze the data. The results of theresearch showed some of the following: (1) Type of the divergence of the cooperativeprinciple that consists of a single divergence. The single divergences includes thedivergences of maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relevance, and maxim ofimplementation (2) Type of the divergence of the manner principle that consists of asingle divergence. The single divergence includes the divergences of maxim of wisdom,maxim of generosity, maxim of praise, maxim of modesty, maxim of agreement, andmaxim of sympathy.
