Abstract :

ABSTRACT This study aims to look at the surveillance implementation in one of the hospitals in Surabaya then compare it with the hospital infection surveillance guidelines published by the Indonesian Ministry of Health (2010). This study uses descriptive method by studying the documents, interviews, and observations in the field where research did. Informants in this research is the leader of Surgical Site Infection (SSI) surveillance program, Infection Prevention and Control Nurse (IPCN), and Infection Prevention and Control Link Nurse (IPCLN) at private hospital Surabaya. The research results were compared with the Hospital Infection Surveillance Guidelines published by the Ministry of Health of Indonesia in 2010 to evaluate the implementation of the SSI surveillance. The results showed that the most of SSI surveillance component in Surabaya private hospital in 2012 went well in accordance with the existing surveillance guidelines. However, there is a flaw on data collection, particularly on the accuracy and completeness of the report form filling. This is due to busy IPCLN who also work as a nurse. Therefore, surveillance staff workers’s motivation needs to be improved through training, collecting attendance form, reward and punishment system, and other methods that can increase IPCLN’s awareness to implement infection prevention and control program in private hospital Surabaya.   Keywords: Surveilans, Component, Surgical Site Infection, Hospital
