Encoding system of metrotv’s news construction in the beginning of indonesia’s reformation era

Abstract :

Tulisan ini tidak bertujuan membedah sejauh mana berita stasiun ini merepresentasikan disposisi politik baik pemilik maupun aktor-aktor sosial yang memegang peranan menentukan berita layak tayang, tetapi mengupas bagaimana stasiun berita ini pada masal awal berdirinya mengonstruksi pakem-pakem pelanggengan budaya kapitalis yang tidak netral,  yang dibungkus ke dalam konstruksi budaya  korporasi.  MetroTV  memosisikan  diri  sebagai  stasiun  referensi  berita  yang  mengklaim membawa nilai budaya korporasi yang diterjemahkan dalam bentuk set of attitude berupa keterbukaan, solidaritas, kejujuran, kebersamaan, profesional, dan etos kerja yang tinggi. Klaim nilai ini memerlukan telaah lebih lanjut karena disposisi politik pemilik stasiun berita merupakan salah satu faktor kunci yang  menentukan  arah  kebijakan  dan  keberpihakan  media  yang  semestinya  berdiri  dalam  ranah netral. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis konstruksi dan kecenderungan berita MetroTV dengan menggunakan pendekatan konstruktivis yang digagas Stuart Hall dengan prinsip pembacaan sistemencoding.  Dalam  analisis  ditemukan  13 news  value yang  menentukan  kelayakan  berita.  Selain  itu, kendati  di  tataran  ideologis  MetroTV  terlihat  netral,  pada  tataran  praktis  keberpihakan  stasiun televisiini  tidak  dapat  terhindarkan.  Dapat  disimpulkan  bahwa set  of  attitudes budaya  korporasi MetroTV yang merepresentasikan ideological framework dalam tataran tekstual dikonstruksikan seolah ekuivalen dengan disposisi dan kepentingan politik aktor-aktor dibelakangnya dalam berita stasiun ini, terutama pada masa-masa awal reformasi di Indonesia.Kata kunci: budaya korporasi, encoding, konstruksi berita, MetroTV, news valueAbstractThis paper does not shift the extent to which the news of this station represents the political disposition of either the owner or the social actors that play a role determining news worthy views. It examines how this news TV station in its inception set certain values in perpetuating the capitalist culture, wrapped into the corporate culture construction. MetroTV positioned itself as reference TV station news  that  translated  the  values  into  a  set  of  attitude  in  forms  of  openness,  solidarity,  honesty, solidarity, professional and high work ethic. This claim needs further study as the political disposition of the owner is one of the key factors that determines the direction of policy and plausibility of its neutral stance. This textual research aims at analysing MetroTV’s news construction and political disposition deploying the constructivist approach proposedby Stuart Hall focusing on reading the encoding system. The study found 13 news values determining newsworthiness of televised events. In  addition,  although  the  corporate  values  of  MetroTV  at  ideological  level  represent  the  station’s neutral stance, this does not make this TV station objective. It can be concluded that a set of attitudes that represent the ideological framework of MetroTV at the level of textual are constructed equivalent to the disposition and political interests of the actors behind the news of this TV station, especially in the beginning of Indonesia’s Reformation era.Keywords: corporate culture, encoding, MetroTV, news construction, news value
