Abstract :
Curcuma zedoariaRosc has been widely used to treat various types of cancer, but research with scientific evidence of its efficacy has not been done. This study aims to determine the effect of ethanol extracts of Curcuma zedoaria Rosc on mammary gland cancer in DMBA (7,12 - dimetilbenz(a)antrasen) induced female mice. Sprague dawley strain female mice age 40 days were divided into 4 groups:group 1 as the DMBA-positive control, group 2 was given C. zedoaria extract 1 week after the last DMBA administration, group 3 was given C. zedoaria extract 2 weeks prior the DMBA administration, group 4 wasgiven C. zedoaria extract 3 weeks after the last DMBA administration. On a dose of 300 mg per kg of bodyweight, Curcuma zedoariaRosc ethanol extract can restrain the growth of mammary cancer in female mice, as evidenced by the restrained CYP1A1 enzyme. In conclusion, Curcuma zedoaria Rosc extract is more appropriately used in the prevention of breast cancer, but can also be used as a therapeutic treatment of breast cancer.
