Abstract :
Exploration of anticancer activity of brown seaweed (Sargassum duplicatum Bory) extract was carried out byin vivo assay. There have been many report of brown seaweed derived compound that have a broad range biological activites, such as antioxidant, antimicroba, antifungi, antiproliferative, and anti-inflammatory activities. To determinethe carcinogenesis inhibition activity of brown seaweed extract, we have examined the effect on benzo[a]pyrene(BaP)-induced rat lungs cancer model in male Wistar rats. Rats were injected with 200 mg/kg bw of BaP for four timesby i.p administration and then they were given orally 100 mg/kg bw of brown seaweed extract for seven days.Malondyaldehyde (MDA) level, protein kinase C (PKC) activity and lung histology was used to evaluate carcinogenesis inhibition. The result showed that brown seaweed extract could decrease MDA level and PKC activity. In addition, lung histology showed repaired. The result indicated that brown seaweed extract might be improved astherapeutic agent of lung carcinogenesis.
