Abstract :
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorders, followed by the inflammatory process in the pancreatic tissue.Inflammatory process occurs due to an increase in free radicals. In this condition the body activate endogenous enzymatic antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase (SOD). Herbal therapy using bioactive that act as antioxidants has been widely studied for treating diabetes.Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol) is an antioxidant that will be tested antioxidant activity in lowering blood glucose levels and malondialdehyde levels in diabetic rats that induced by streptozotocin (STZ).In this study used an animal model of type 1 diabetes rats with multiple low-dose repeated (MLD-STZ) streptozotocin of 20 mg / kg for 5 consecutive days.Therapy d-α-tocopherol conducted with doses of 200 and 300 mg / kg every 2 days for 11 times. The results showed that d-α therapy-tocopherol at a dose of 200 and 300 mg / kg body weight in rats induced by MLD-STZ showed a decrease in blood glucose levels and MDA, respectively for 71.34%, 84.16%, and 41 , 16%, 69.51%, and repair damage to the pancreas tissue. d-α-tocopherol 300 mg / kgbody weight is the maximum dose in this study.
