Abstract

Introduction: Elderlywho live inpanti wredhawillhave a newenvironment exposurethatmake them have toadaptin a positiveor negative responses. The failure ofthe adaptiveresponsecouldlead to anover-anxiety which may cause depression. Therefore, further investigation of this particular case will be discussed in this paper is urgent to be explored. The objective of this study was to explain the correlation between the elderly changing role with the levels of depression. Method: This research used a cross sectional design. The population was elderly who stay at UPT PSLU Pasuruan Babat Lamongan, 17  residents were recruited by means of purposive sampling. The independent variable was the changing role of elderly while the dependent variable was the level of depression. The data were collected by using quetitionaires and were then analyzed using Spearman Rho with level of significance of p<0,05. Result and Analysis: The result showed that there was a significant correlation between the changing role of elderly with the levels of depression with value of p = 0,017 and r = 0,517. The risk of depression will be showed by elderly who have maladaptive response.Increasinglymaladaptivechanges inthe role ofthe elderlywho livein panti wredhahigherlevel ofdepression. Discussion and Recommendation: Elderlywho livein panti wredhaare expected toadaptthe changing role to avoid theanxietythatwill cause adepression. Further studies should providean appropriate intervention in this particular situation to prevent the occurrence of depression and promote the elderly life quality.
