Abstract :
A graphite coated-wire Salbutamol Ion Selective Electrode (ISE) based on ion associate of salbutamolium phosphotungstate (Sl-PTA) in a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) matrix was developed. An optimum mixture of PVC, DOP as plasticizer and Sl-PTA as ion pairing agent (47.5 %: 47.5 %: 5.0 %) was used in preparing the coatings. Prior to measurements, the salbutamol selective electrode was characterized in its linearity, Nernstian factor, sensitivity, response time, life time and selectivity coefficient. The graphite coated-wire ISE exhibited a linear Nernstian over the range 10-1 to 4.10-5 M with slope of 58.68 mV per decade change and response time less than 1 minute. The detection limit of electrode was 4.10-5 M. The electrodes showed good selectivity to salbutamolium ion in present of Na (I), K (I) and Mg (II) ions.
