Abstract :
The purpose of this research was cognizant of the influence of orto and para methoxy groups on benzaldehyde in synthesis of 2-methoxychalcone and 4-methoxychalcone. Synthesis was done with aldol condensation using NaOH 50% as catalyst in room temperature for one hour. Orto and para methoxy groups on benzaldehyde had influence by enhancing the reactivity C carbonyl benzaldehyde, that build the carbonyl positive center faster. Chalcone was determined as yellow crystal (66,4%), melting point 53-54 oC, 2-methoxychalcone was yellow crystal (75,9%), m.p. 58-59oC, and yield of 4-methoxychalcone was 85,2%, m.p. 73-74 oC. Compounds identification using UV-Vis, Infrared and 1H-NMR spectroscopy.
