Pregnancy exercise influence in labor and neonatal health status

Abstract :

ABSTRACT Pregnancy exercise is a form of physical activity, which has beneficial to improve pelvic muscle and ligament elasticity. Recommended to pregnant women as a preventative in order to pregnancy process goes naturally, and reduce crisis caused by labor. The purpose of research was to analyze the influence of pregnancy exercise on labor and neonatal health status in Rumah Bersalin Gratis – Rumah Zakat Surabaya. The research used analytic observational, study design used retrospective cohort. The exposed population was pregnant women with gestational age ≥ 28 weeks who did exercises ≥ 6 times. The unexposed population was pregnant women with gestational age ≥ 28 weeks who are not exercise or exercise <6 times. The samples are 22 respondents of exposed group and 44 respondents of unexposed group. The analysis aimed to find the value of the risk relative with 95% CI. The result showed the characteristics of the group of pregnant women who did exercises majority (86.36%) aged between 20–35 years, had diploma / bachelor degree (54.54%), worked in private (54.54%), and primigavida (54.5%). While in the group of pregnant women who did not exercise majority (90.9%) aged 20–35 years old, high school education (56.81%), housewife (54.54%), and multigravid (52.27%). The possibility of pregnant women who had experienced exercise had fast labor time 1.80 times (95% CI 1.209 < RR <2.68) than women who did not exercise. The infants of mothers who did exercise had normal APGAR 1,727 times (95% CI 1.23 < RR < 2.424) than infants of pregnant women who didn’t exercise. Keywords: exercise, labor, pregnancy
