Abstract :

ABSTRACT One of the biggest causes of infant mortality and neonatal deaths were infants with low weight at birth or commonly called Low Birth Weight (LBW). According to the World Health Organization (WHO) LBW has risk of death 20 times higher than in infants of normal birth weight. This study aims to analyze the affect between the quantity and quality of antenatal care on the incidence of low birth weight babies (LBW) as well as several other factors. This study used a case-control design with observational analytic approach. The sample totaled 80 respondents drawn by simple random sampling technique to sample the distribution of cases and controls 40 respondents. The independent variables were the quantity of antenatal care and the quality of antenatal care, the dependent variable was LBW. Data analysis was performed using logistic regression. The results showed that the quantity of antenatal care (p= 0.000 and Exp (B) = 16.333) and quality of antenatal care (p = 0.006 and Exp (B) = 4.265) were significant. In this study it can be concluded that the quantity and quality of antenatal care affects the incidence of LBW. For pregnant women are expected to be routine in checking the pregnancy in antenatal health care center so that the risk of pregnancy complications and distractions can be minimized and increase knowledge of pregnancy-related care.
