Abstract :

Colds is a common disease in the community. This disease can affect adults and children. However, thetreatment is still not quite right. For example, people still use antibiotics to treat colds, whereas it ispharmacologically not effective. The purpose of this research was to know public knowledge about coldmedication. This research was an observational research with survey method with instrument in the form ofquestionnaire to get data and was accidental. The data were taken at Tambak Wedi Sub-District, KenjeranDistrict, Surabaya City. In this study the number of respondents were 115 people, 76% women and 24% men.From the results, the number of respondents who had good knowledge about cold was 73%, medium knowledgewas 24% and had low knowledge was 3%. Of all respondents, right treatment was done by 4% people, whilstless appropriate by 70% and not appropriate by 26% respondents. The data were analyzed using statisticalmethod and it was found that there was no statistically significant relationship between knowledge of colds andthe behavior to treat it. It was concluded that many people know about cold but less able to apply propertreatment.
