Abstract :
Paper examines the military intervention driven by ideational factors antifundamentalisme perception that Islam is shaped by secularism. It took the case of Mali crisis where groups of Islamic fundamentalism, Ansar Dine, seeks to replace the secular government with a government based on sharia Mali. Political and military condition of the post-coup has weakened Mali. For that reason, President Traore asked for help from the UN and France. French military then intervened by launching Operation Serval. Paper finds that ideational factors such as strengthening anti-fundamentalism perception of Islam in the French political elite is a determinant factor behind the military intervention in Mali in January 2013.
