Abstract :
Patrick Braden, also called as ‘Kitten’ in the film Breakfast in Pluto, was a male-to-female transgender who lived in small town of Tyrellin, Ireland. He longed for his biological mother and to serve his purpose, in 1970s, he moved to London to search her love. During serving his purpose, he was establishing himself to perform his opposite gender. Judith Butler’s gender performativity was the theory applied in order to explore how Patrick performed his gender. Qualitative method was conducted by selecting the scenes from their narrative and non-narrative aspects. The finding from the analysis on storyline, costumes, make-up, performance, and color was that he kept repeating imitating the appearance of a woman by wearing woman’s clothes and applying nail polish. Furthermore, the imitation was followed by another feminine skill such as sewing. The repetition done by Patrick showed that he performed the opposite gender performance.
