Abstract :
This article focuses on the process of making a decision to exert material-based forms (trunk, money, and land) in Waibalun subdistrict, Flores Timur related to Welin. In this regard, Welin (maternal value) is used as a member of tribes dead. Accordingly customary rules do not generate a material consequence in return. Current customary rules that lead to challenge i.e., material form, is at odds with indigenous law. In response to this problem, this thesis exerts the logic of symbolic interactionism. Additionally, a qualitative method is being used in this thesis, particularly sympathetic introspection as explained by Blumer. Moreover, an observation, an interview and a reading-based method are three key technical tools both in exploring and elaborating information. In addition, this thesis exerts a purposive sampling in designating an informant. Furthermore, the outcome of this research highlights that figure whom makes a decision (belake) use the conversation regarding Welin is merely as a stage to pursue his personal interests. This indicates that value that controls social situation has no remarkable power to control the current social situation including belake’s decision. This imparts unique feature socially in Waibalun, explaining that a society is at the cultural entropy.
