Abstract :

Hydrocephalus is a pathology of the brain where an excess accumulation in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) volume occurs caused either by excessive production, impaired absorption, both or unknown etiology. Clinical presentation, degree of severity and impact of hydrocephalus are likely determined by the age of onset, etiology and duration of hydrocephalus. Most of hydrocephalus cases are shunt system dependent. However, the shunt system therapy needs regular monitoring and medical follow up because it can lead to other complications and subsequent brain impairment. Understanding of pathophysiology of hydrocephalus might give basic knowledge to find the way how to prevent and to treat it with minimal complication.
