Abstract :

The purpose of this study was to explain the effects of orchidectomy and detorsion of unilateral testicular torsion upon immune response in the contralateral testis. Forty eight white Wistar rats divided into 6 groups, two groups underwent sham operation served as control, two groups had left testicular torsion with subsequent orchidectomy without detorsion at 4 or 24 hours and two groups had left testicular torsion followed by detorsion at 4 or 24 hours. The contralateral testes were investigated 7 days later to examine the percentage of IL-4 producing lymphocytes and immunoglobulin G producing plasma cells immunohistochemically. The results showed that multivariate analysis of the intratubular percentage of IL-4 producing lymphocyte and IgG producing plasma cells in the contralateral testis after testicular torsion at 24 hours followed by detorsion, orchidectomy or control showed a significant difference (p
