Abstract :
Introduction: Sleep deprivation is a disorder that frequently occurs in elderly. It is influenced by various factors that disrupt the sleep cycle at night. The decreasing of sleep quality makes several effect in physic and psychology. Ling Tien Kung movement therapy can become alternative intervention for elderly with lack sleep quality. This activity is consist of movement series that center on anal hold up. This study aimed to analyze the influence of Ling Tien Kung movement therapy in improving the sleep quality on elderly. Method: This study was used Quasy Experiment design with two group pre-post test design. The population were elderly at RW IV Kelurahan Manyar Sabrangan Surabaya, 20 respondents taken by purposive sampling technique, divided into two groups; 10 respondents on intervention group and 10 respondents on control group. Ling Tien Kung movement as independent variable and sleep quality as dependent variable. Instrument that used in this study was PSQI questionnaire. The data were then analyzed by using Wilcoxon Signed Rank test and Mann Whitney test with level of significant α ≤ 0,05. Result: Intervention group in this study resulted a decreasing of PSQI score in post test. The results had showed that Ling Tien Kung movement therapy has a significant influence in increasing of sleep quality on elderly at RW IV Kelurahan Manyar Sabrangan Surabaya with result of Wilcoxon Signed Rank test p=0,004 for pre-post test intervention group and post test between intervention-control group with Mann Whitney test p=0,020. Discussion: It can be concluded that Ling Tien Kung movement therapy can increasing sleep quality on elderly. Nurses or health volunteer in this district can continue this activity to improve the quality of sleep in elderly. Further study was expected to explore the improvement of sleep quality after Ling Tien Kung movement with more controlled factors like activity and chronic diseases.
