The correlation between knowledge and motivation with mother’s behavior in eradication mosquito nest of dengue haemorrhagic fever

Abstract :

Introduction: Dengue Haemorhagic Fever (DHF) still becomes health problem in Indonesia. Less understand about it will lead into people’s ignorance in cutting the transmission line, for the example by eradicate mosquito nest. Not only knowlegde, but people’s motivation also important to implement particular behavior. The aim of this study was to examine the correlation between knowledge and motivation with mother’s behavior in eradication mosquito nest of DHF. Method: This was correlational study with cross sectional approach. Population were mother at Kelurahan Pegirian, Surabaya. Samples were 80 respondents, taken with proposionate cluster sampling. The independent variables were mother’s knowledge and motivation, while the dependent variable was mother’s behavior in eradicate mosquito nest. Data were collected by using questionaire, then analyzed by using Spearman Rank Test with level of significance α≤0.05. Result: The result had showed that there was significant weak correlation between mother’s knowledge and behavior (p=0.000; r=0.309). While mother’s motivation have significant moderate correlation with behavior in eradicate mosquito nest (p=0.000; r=0.423). Discussion:  It can be concluded that mother’s knowledge and motivation correlate with their behavior in eradicate mosquito nest. Mother should inform the member of her family about preventing DHF transmission by eradicate mosquito nest. Nurses should empower mother to do it through health education regularly.
