The factors which correlate with family’s behavior in the prevention of leprosy transmission

Abstract :

Introduction: Leprosy is an infectious disease that leads to many problems. Leprosy can be transmitted through a close, long, and intense relationship with patient. Therefore, the patient’s family have a greater risk on Leprosy transmission. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors which have correlation with family’s behavior in the prevention of Leprosy transmission. Method: This was a correlational research with cross sectional approach. Population were family of leprosy patient who were recorded at Kecamatan Semampir. Samples were 14 respondents, taken by purposive sampling. The independent variables were perceived benefits of action, perceived barriers to action, perceived self-efficacy, and activity-related affect. While, dependent variable was family’s behavior in the prevention of Leprosy transmission. Data were collected by using questionnaires and observation, then analyzed by using Spearman’s Rho Test with level of significance α≤0.05. Result: The result had showed that perceived benefits of action (p= 0.478); perceived barriers to action (p= 0,478); perceived self-efficacy (p= 0,679); and activity related affect (p= 0.519) have no correlation with family’s behavior in the prevention of Leprosy transmission. Discussion: It can be concluded that behaviour specific cognition and affect were not have correlation with family’s behavior in the prevention of Leprosy transmission. Further studies are expected to develop and may identify a significant correlation by increasing the number of samples. The results of this study can be used by nurses to find the dominant factors or other factors in HPM that correlation with family’s behavior in the prevention of Leprosy transmission.
