The mixture of fragrant pandan’s leaves and virgin coconut oil reduce joint pain in elderly with osteoarthritis

Abstract :

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a joint disease that with high prevalence (60%) compared with other joint diseases, such as Gout or Rheumatoid arthritis. The purpose of this research was to analyze the influence of mixture of fragrant pandan’s leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius roxb) and Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) reduction of joint. This research used  quasy experiment design. The population was the elderly with osteoarthritis at Puskesmas Manyak Payed, Aceh Tamiang. The independent variable was mixture of fragrant pandan’s leaves  and virgin coconut oil. While, the dependent variable was the joint pain in the elderly with Osteoarthritis. The data were analysis with Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test dan Mann Whitney U Test, with level of significance α ≤ 0,05. The result showed that given mixture of fragrant pandan’s leaves and virgin coconut oil could decreased the joint pain scale (p= 0,006). The differences between treatment and control groups showed the influence of mixture of fragrant pandan’s leaves and virgin coconut oil of joint pain scale (p=0.009). It can be concluded that mixture of fragrant pandan’s leaves and virgin coconut oil can reduce joint pain on elderly with Osteoarthritis. Researchers recommend that the elderly with Osteoarthritis take medication more regularly experienced pain that does not become heavier.
