Abstract :
This article describes about historical search of ulama pesantren network and its intellectual genealogy in Surakarta region at the early 20th century until New Order era. Ulama has been known as religious elites who has very important role in transmitting public knowledge through education and teaching within pesantren institutions (Islamic boarding schools). This strategic role has been understood and realized by the predecessor ulama, therefore regeneration ulama has been done through education in pesantren. This continuous process of ulama regeneration has established the intellectual genealogy network among contemporary ulama as well as scholars across generations. The study area is in the Surakarta region in the 20th century, where many ulama founded pesantren. They have ulama network for several generation because of succeeded in preparing new ulama cadres for the next period. Based from this interesting fact, the authors want to examine more deeply through the question how the process of network formation of pesantren ulama intellectual genealogy in Surakarta region around the 20th century. The historical method used to reconstruct data that has been analyzed in the form of historiographic presentation. The research result describes that ulama network was formed at New Order Era so related to ulama at the early of 20th century. The existence of Madrasah Mambaul Ulum, Jamsaren Pesantren and Popongan Pesantren at the beginning of 20th century in Surakarta region has a big role in made great foundation to the forming pesantren ulama network in New Order era. The conclusion of this research is the existence of pesantren ulama community is preserved because they have intellectual genealogy network which could be passed through from predecessor ulama generation to the next ulama generation.
