Abstract :
The aim of this research is to obtain data regarding the demographic condition of the parents of 4-6year old children that have joined the education by an organization caleed PAUD in the villages ofGresik. Moreover, this research also aims to gain insight regarding parental involvement and find theproblem of literacy stimulation. Parental involvement is a participation done by parents to supportthe development of children optimally. This research is an exploratory research with descriptiveanalysis. The location conducted was in Cerme Kidul Village and Cagak Agung Village, a sub-districtof Cerme in Gresik. 116 parents are involved as the subject in this research; 116 fathers and 116mothers. The finding of this research shows that demographically, parents have the potential to doliteracy stimulation towards their children, although currently the stimulations done are not yetoptimal. The limations faced in this research are the belief that teachers hold the most role inteaching literacy (reading-writing) compared to parents, the absence of programs that support theinvolvement of parents in the context of family-educational institutions-society relationship, and thelack of socialization, knowledge, and understanding that parents are actually able to take role inliteracy stimulation by using various medias available at homes. Moreover, early stage childhoodeducation is seen as a system that is autonomous without the need of parent and societyinvolvement. Therefore, a model which involves parents in literacy stimulation is needed, which canbe done by using the partnership between families, educational institutions for early childhood, andthe society.
