Abstract :

Porphyridium sp. is a kind of phytoplankton that is able to be cultivated intensively. Porphyridium sp.is potential in pharmaceutical sector besides that this microalgae also has active components that is able to be used as antioxsidant, antibacterial and in cosmetic sector. Porphyridium sp. can be gained in large number and in a relative short time by doing cultivation tecnique of Porphyridium sp. in a right and good away (manner).             The goal of this Field Work Practice is to know the technique of Porphyridium sp. cultivation and its rearing in intermediate scale, understand the problems and obstacles found in Porphyridium sp. cultivation technique in intermediate scale, understand the factors that has to be noticed in the Porphyridium sp. intermediate scale cultivation technique. This Field Work Practice was held in Balai Budidaya Air Payau (BBAP), Pecaron Village, Panarukan District, Situbondo Region, East Java Province on January 14th 2013 until February 14th 2013.             The method used in this field work practice is descriptive method with data taking through primer data and secondary data. Data collecting done with active participation, observation, interview and literature study.             Porphyridium sp. intermediate  scale cultivan was started by laboratory scale cultivation of 10 l, continued to aquarium cultivation of 100 l, then konikel cultivation of 500 l in intermediate. Porphyridium sp. intermediate scale cultivation was able to get the top population in the seven days.             Water quality of media which was gained during it rearing in intermediate scale were temperature about 26-320C, pH about 8-8,7 and salinity about 34-36 ppt. Water quality which was measured was still appropriate (suitable) for this Porphyridium sp. growth.
