Abstract :

The infant mortality rate is one important indicator in determining the level of health and is used as an indicator of the success of health development in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the causes of infant mortality in the district of Sidoarjo. This study was observational research with cross sectional design. Sample of 23 mothers of infants who die are scattered in four health centers in Sidoarjo district. The data obtained and analyzed descriptively with quantitative and qualitative approach based on the perception of the mother. The results showed most of the prematurely born infant deaths that accompanied the mother factor. Knowledge of mothers about the pregnancy was still low, long distances at delivery, and limited transportation. Conclusions obtained were the causes of infant mortality by maternal perception of preterm birth was the most deaths accompanied by maternal factors, there was a relationship between characteristics of mothers with health services, long distance and transport during labor was limited. Proposed research was provided counseling, provision of educational media on pregnancy and the need for transportation in each village to health care.
