Abstract :
Euphorbia hirta L as a wild plant was known has antibacterial compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids and terpenoids. Euphorbia hirta was ethanol extracted. The aim of this research was determine antibacterial potential (Minimal Bactericidal Concentration) of Euphorbia hirta extracts on Staphylococcus aureus through in vitro method. There were two steps of in vitro method. The first step was broth dilution method, the extracts were diluted into concentrations 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% and 100%, respectively on tubes. Each concentration was added Staphylococcus aureus suspension based on Mc Farland number 1, then incubated at 37oC for ±24 hours. The second step was agar dilution method, all solution tubes were streaked in MHA also bacteria as positive control and extract as negative control, then incubated at 37oC for ±24 hours. This research was conducted five times repeated. Sensitivity test results obtained MBC values from first, second, third, fourth and fifth repetition was 40%, 30%, 40%, 50% and 40%, respectively. The results showed average data of Minimal Bactericidal Concentration of Euphorbia hirta L. extract on Staphylococcus aureus was 40% (0,4 g/ml).
