Abstract :

This study aims to formulate antimosquito lotion preparations that use active substances volatile oil from the leaves of Lantana camara Linn. Essential oils obtained by steam distillation of leaves of L. camara. The process of making lotion by mixing volatile oil into lotion base with a concentration of 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5% at a temperature of 50-30oC. The analysis which performed on lotion is stability test that includes organoleptic, pH, viscosity and globule size with observations for 60 days of storage. Test lotion mosquito activity is done by calculating the time of protection, that is the time when the hand is inserted into the breeder panelists until mosquito bite. From the results of stability tests, the organoleptic lotion does not show changes in color and smell, as well as showing good homogeneity. There was a decrease of pH lotion for 60 days of storage and there is a real difference (<α 0.05) between pH lotion on the first day until day 60. Lotion pH range between 5 to 6. However the pH still in the range of required pH which is from 4,0 to 7.5. Lotion viscosity is in the range 2166-4500 cP. Statistic results showing significant differences that occurred in the viscosity during storage lotion, but the viscosity still qualified which is less than 30,000 cP. Globule size ranged from 0.07 to 0.3 mm (100x magnification). Globule size had enlarged for 60 days of storage but not much different when compared with the comparative preparations. Based on the results of the stability test, the resulting lotion has good stability and still meet safety standards and to be applied to the skin. the result of mosquito activity showed lotion with a concentration of 5% is give largest activity. The larger activity according with the amount of volatile oil of L. camara were added to the lotion. This shows that volatile oil of L. camara has activity as a anti-mosquito.
