Abstract :

Indigestion or dyspepsia is a symptom or syndrome consists of pain or discomfort in the epigastrum, nausea,vomiting, bloating, regurgitation, and a burning sensation in the chest. Drug used to overcome indigestion isantacid. Sufficient knowledge about the correct used of antacid in society, as well as information on possible sideeffects and drug interactions was required. This study was conducted to reveal the profile of knowledge ofhousewives to treat indigestion and the proper use of antacid in Gubeng Sub-District, Surabaya. This was adescriptive research with accidental sampling method. Data was obtained using questionnaire consisted of 20items. Participants in this study were 120 respondents. Based on these results it can be concluded that morethan 80% of respondents answered incorrectly on items of statements regarding the stability of antaciddrugs, drug interactions against dyspepsia and how to take appropriate antacid drugs. Healthpromotion related to the correct use of antacid drugs is needed.
