Abstract :
The article examines about Indonesian struggle to emerge Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD) mechanism issue in 13th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Indonesia government seriously responds this environmental issue. Earlier, Indonesia supports the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) but suddenly, changed to support REDD mechanism. Indonesia considers REDD is more important and problematic. Important, because REDD mechanisms offers interesting options and benefits for Indonesia, including opportunity in gaining compensation like financial and technological transfer, something unavailable in the CDM. REDD is also problematic, deemed that environmental issue is a complex one. Indonesia is maximizing its diplomacy to pursue its national interest on the mechanism. Although REDD was still in negotiation during the 13th UNFCCC and has not yet been a legal document in the Kyoto Protocol, REDD was a fundamental agenda during the 13th UNFCCC in the Bali Roadmap.
