Abstract :
This paper examines the policy of Australian government on the issue of asylum seeker, especially those considered to be the ”boat people. This paperfinds that both the policy and the strategy from the Australian government failed to stop or even to significantly reduce the wave of this asylum seeker. Not only failed, the policy has violated the principles of human rights and contribute to the deteriorating relations between Australia and Indonesia. This paper argues that Australian policy to securitize this issue has significantly contributed to the ineffective and, sometimes, contradictive handling on the issue of the ”boat people”.
