Abstract :
ASEAN’s economies are thriving. However, they are facing, and will have to cope with, challenges derived from the changing global geo-economic settings over the last decade. This article aims to identify four significant currents of development of the global geo-economy. They encompass the decline of global economic growth, problems of demography, high rate of urbanization, and most important of the four is scarcity of resources. Then, it examines the extent to which the four global geo-economic challenges affect the prospect of ASEAN’s project of economic integration. In the conclusion, it is presented some strategic recommendations for policy and action to advance economic cooperation leading to integration in the Southeast Asian region.
