Abstract :

Cataract blindness is a social problem in West Nusa Tenggara, and despite the many efforts to provide free of cataract surgery,the number of cataract surgery is still low. Many factors may influence patient's decision to undergo cataract surgery. It is important to determine those factors. The purpose of this study is to determine various constraints and supporting factors influencing the decision to undergo cataract surgery. This study was cross sectional descriptive comparative study, with randomized cluster sampling. Subjects were divided into operable cases that underwent free cataract surgery and those that did not access free cataract surgery. Datawere obtained by questionaires including questions about characteristics, supporting factors and constraints to access free surgery,vision and quality of life. The main constraints of the operable cataract patients to access free surgery were fear for surgery, long distance location, feel that they still have adequate vision, and the lack of funds for transportation and accommodation. The supportingfactors comprise personal motivation, free surgery, inadequate vision, and support of family and surrounding people
