Management of upper eyelid coloboma with three steps technique surgery

Abstract :

The purpose of this case is to report the result of upper eyelid colobomatous repair with three steps surgery. An eight month oldbaby visited the hospital with defect at the upper eyelid in the left eye since birth. There were tearing and discharge in the left eye.Examination on the left eye revealed coloboma at 1/3 medial upper eyelid, symblepharon and pseudopterygium. In this case three stepssurgery was performed. Firstly releasing tissue as possible, secondly performed fullthickness graft from upper eyelid of the fellow eyeand thirdly Z-plasty was done at the superior medial canthus. Follow up was done until 3 months with a good result. In small babywith 1/3 defect although the graft was already done to repair the coloboma, Z-plasty technique to elongate the tissue is still neededto help defect covering.
