Abstract :

The purpose of this case report is to present a rare case of retinopathy of prematurity stage V. A ten months old girl came withleucokoria in both eyes since she was 3 months old. Patient was born at 6 months of gestational age, with 1200 grams of birth weight.Patient had oxygen therapy for 15 days. Her mother had normal history of pregnancy. Examination of both eyes revealed horizontalnystagmus and positive light response. Anterior segment within normal limit. Funduscopy examination of both eyes showed negativefundal reflex and detail was difficult to evaluate. Indirect ophthalmoscopy examination is difficult to evaluate and revealed vitreousopacity due to white mass behind the lens. Laboratory examination of IgG and IgM citomegalovirus was positive. Ultrasonographyof both eyes revealed total retinal detachment. Based on physical examination, patient had diagnosed as Retinopathy of Prematuritystage V. Conservative therapy. Management of retinal detachment in Retinopathy of Prematurity stage V can be done by surgery butthe operation technique is difficult with poor prognose and at the end it will become pthysical. It is important to have coordinationbetwen ophthalmologist and pediatrician to be aware of Retinopathy of Prematurity cases.
