Abstract :

Aims: To evaluate the influence of GABA agonist gabapentin in reducing neuropathic pain in mice model. Methods: Eight mice each group (total 9 groups) were classified into two major categories i.e. Sham (control) and Ligation. Mice-modelled neuropathic pain was induced using ligation of the sciatic nerve by procedure was described by Bennet and Xie. Seven groups of mice received intrathecal administration of gabapentin of 0.1, 1, 10 or 30 nmol whereas two groups received only normal saline for 7 days following surgical procedure. Three methods for measuring hyperalgesia i.e. Summer Stimulation, Tail Flick and Hot Plate Test was used to measure mice’ response to thermal stimulus at day 0 (before operation), 1, 3, 5, and 7 respectively. Data were analysed using Bonferroni/Dunn Test.
