Abstract :

ABSTRACT The accidents at work are most caused by unsafe behavior. Behavior Based Safety (BBS) is a tool to observe behavior in order to create safe behaviors and prevent accidents. The aimed of this study is evaluating the implementation of BBS of STOP program in PT X herbicide factory. This study using the observational descriptive method with a cross-sectional approach. The samples observation of safe behavior were determined with purposive sampling. Sample was taken from 5 department, 1 sample randomly selected on each department. The available data were analyzed with qualitative methods. The results showed that STOP program is an adoption program, therefore in defining stage of behavior for observation were not made by PT X and the observation process approach by 'self observation' is less precise in use. Management has a big role in completing infrastructure that supported STOP program, but the integration of the program into labor safety has not been carried on. The result of the labor safe behavior that has been observed are 60% categorized quite well and 40% unfavorable. Stages of BBS has not been fully implemented in the STOP program. The lack of inaccuracy is found in a stage of identification of safe behavior and the process of observation. In the other side, management roles were still need to be improved. Those can be factors in discovering the unsafe behavior in PT X. It’s recommended for the company to improve the implementation process of BBS which were reflected in STOP program.
