Abstract :

Diarrhea is a serious problem especially for children  under five years old. Basic house sanitation is important in diarrhea case. In Ngunut  Public Health Center,  the diarrhea case was improved from 687 cases in 2007 to 699 cases in 2008. This research’s objective was to analyze  the correlation between basic  house sanitation and diarrhea on children at Ngunut  Village. This research used analytical research and cross-sectional study.  Questionnaire and observational sheets were  used to collect  data.  Chi-square statistic  test  was  used to analyze  the  data.  Children  under  five years old were  taken  as respondent using  random  sampling and  95 children  was  got  as sample. It showed that diarrhea occurrences on children  in this last three months was still high (46.3%). Basic  house sanitation needed to be improved again because lot of things  weren’t eligible  (65.3%) such as clean  water (48.4%),  human  excreta  (62.1%),  household waste  water (69.5%) and household solid waste  (84.2%). The chi-square test result showed that there was a correlation between basic  house sanitation with diarrhea on children  (value of p = 0.003 (p < α)). It is suggested that community empowerment about house basic  sanitation should be raised to lower the diarrhea occurrences on children.   Keywords: house basic  sanitation, diarrhea
