Abstract :

Abstract: The diarrhea percentage at Bena Village in 2008 was 29.99%. Sanitation and behavior in maintaining and using clean water were not adequate in health. This research objective was to study the condition of basic home sanitation and people’s behavior with diarrhea incidence on toddler at Bena Village District South Amanuban of South Central Timor Regency in Nusa Tenggara Timur Province. This research was done by observation and using cross- sectional approach. The independent variable was diarrhea incidence on toddler at Bena village during last 3 months and the dependent variables were basic home sanitation and housewives’ behavior. Population in 2009 was 359 housewives who have toddler under five years old. Samples were 78 respondents and were taken from random sampling with systematic sampling. The collection data were primary and secondary. The result showed the p value < 0.05 meant that there were correlation between basic home sanitation and housewives’ behavior. The most dominant factor in diarrhea incidence was the family’s closet (p = 0.003) with (α = 0.05). It is suggested that it is necessary to cooperate with government, not only in private but also in society to improve a clean and healthy live. Communication, information, and education about diarrhea are required. Keywords: basic  sanitation, housewives, behaviors, diarrhea incidence
