Abstract :
Abstract: The main components of the house and environment which not suitable with basic hygiene conditions is the main risk factor as deceases, especially for the environmental decease. The effect of unhealthy house may caused negative impact is Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) which still became one of primary decease in our society, especially to the children under five years old whom vulnerable to the decease. The main purpose of this research was to know the relation between settlement hygiene and Acute respiratory infection to the children under five years old at working area of Baamang I society health center (Puskesmas), Baamang area, Kotawaringin Timur district.This was an observational research, using cross sectional and analytics method. Sample used in this research was the house which has children under five years old (age 1–4 years) with respondents were the mothers from those children under five years old totally 96 houses. Subjects was taken from population with purposive sampling. The result from this research, there was a relation between house components (Chi Square p = 0.002) with contingency coefficient 0.326, sanitation components (Chi Square p = 0.000) with contingency coefficient 0.375, behavior of resident (Chi Square p = 0.005) with contingency coefficient 0.275 and house healthy (Chi Square p = 0.000) with contingency coefficient 0,358 compare with acute respiratory infection to the children under five years old. From this research it can be concluded that all of dependent variables are related to the acute respiratory infection to the children under five years old which were house component, sanitation, behavior of resident, and house healthy. Advised had been given to the Baamang I society health center (Puskesmas), Baamang area, Kotawaringin Timur district in order to give explanation about house healthy environment to reduce the risk of respiratory severe syndrome to the children under five years old.
