Determinant factors for public wells water quality and its correlation with the prevalence of diarrhea

Abstract :

The aim of this research was to identify and analyze the relationship between well construction, environmental sanitation and habits of the community that influencing the water quality of public wells and diarrhea in the Jenu Sub-District, Tuban Regency.This was an observational cross sectional study. The sample consists of the population of public wells in the Jenu Sub District, Tuban Regency. Data collection was conducted utilizing questionnaire, observational check list, and laboratory test. The respondents were 93 households who utilize and domiciled nearby the public wells. The results showed that construction and environmental sanitation were correlated to water quality of public well (Multiple logistic regression test, all p < 0.05). Community habits were not correlated to water quality of public well. The most significant factor influenced was environmental sanitation factor. Water quality of public well was associated with prevalence of diarrhea (Chi-Square test, p < 0.05).It is concluded that sanitation factors were as determinant factor for water quality of public wells as well as the prevalence of diarrhea. Therefore it is suggested implementing better sanitary inspection to improve the water quality.
