Abstract :

Abstrak: Based on Basic Health Research (Riset Kesehatan Dasar) in 2007, pneumonia was the second leading cause of death  in under  five years  old children  after diarrhea. The purpose of this research to analyze  the effects of housing sanitation  on  the  incidence of pneumonia in under  five years  old children  which  includes home component, home sanitation,  and  occupant behavior.  This  research  was an analytical  study with  case-control  approach.  There  were35 cases of pneumonia in under five years old children and 35 samples of the control group who visited the Tambakrejo Public Health Center  with another  diseases. The statistical test was using  chi square  and logistic  regression. Housing sanitation  associated on the incidence of pneumonia in under  five years  old children  (p < 0.05).  Housing  sanitation variables  which  include the home component, the home sanitation,  and occupant behavior  were  associated with the incidence of pneumonia in under  five years  old  children  (p <  0.05).  Housing  sanitation  variable influenced on  the incidence of pneumonia in under  five years  old children  (sig < 0.05).  Housing  sanitation  variables  which  influenced on  incidence of pneumonia in under  five years  old  children  was  only occupant behavior  (sig  <  0.05)  whereas the home component and the home sanitation had no effect  (sig > 0.05). It is concluded that there was housing sanitation influenced on the  incidence of pneumonia in under  five years  old children.  It is suggested that there  is an effort to improve  the health of the home environment to reduce the risk of pneumonia in under  five years old children.
