Abstract :

Banggai Cardinal (Pterapogon kauderni) is a fish that has a very beautiful and attractive appearance. The beauty of banggai cardinal fish found in the typical pattern of contrasting black color with white spots. Because of its beauty, fish, Banggai capungan became very interested in marine ornamental fish trade. The purpose of Field Work Practice is to study the banggai cardinal fish hatchery in Balai Besar Riset Perikanan Budidaya Laut Gondol, Bali, and to know the obstacles that occurred. Practice of Field Work was conducted in Balai Besar Riset Perikanan Budidaya Laut Gondol, Bali, on 19 July to 3 September 2010. Working methods used in this Field Work Practice is a descriptive method of data collection includes primary data and secondary data. Data were collected by observation, interview participation, library research and documentation. Banggai cardinal fish hatchery is done with a mass in the basin of fiber. Hatchery begins with the procurement of stem directly from the wild caught using nets and without chemicals. Parent selection is to choose the parent who is ready to spawning with the criteria of age, size and health of fish. The distinction between male and female will be more easily observed when the male parent was incubating eggs in his mouth because the mouth of the male parent will look bigger than the female parent. Parent then maintained on the vessel fiber with long spines of sea urchins (Diadema sp.) As a natural shelter. Feed given the natural food form of shrimp jembret (Mesopodopsis sp.), Naupli Artemia (Artemia salina), and Rotifers (Brachionus plicatilis). Feed was delivered twice a day ie morning at 08.00 pm and the afternoon at 14.00 pm. Water quality control is done by cleaning every week. BBRPBL Gondol still have not found the banggai cardinal fish spawning technique so it is still done naturally. Banggai cardinal fish spawn naturally between 3-4 weeks with an interval of about one week to spawn again. Banggai cardinal fish spawning occurs during the day between the hours of 10:00 to 15:00. After spawning, eggs were incubated in the mouth until it becomes a male parent seed.
