Abstract :
Pearl oyster,one of the mollusc family that produce pearl,this oyster is high valuable commodity from marine sector and has a prospect for future business development. Nowadays the production of pearl oyster is more developing than previously, at first the pearl is acquired by pearl diving but now the production is done by cultivation the oyster. And the cultivation could be said succeed if is it the quantity of mortal rate is lesser in pearl oyster spat. The aim of this field practice work are to know and practice the technique of pendederan pearl oyster spat, analyze the growth rate and survival rate, analyze the water quality parameter along with analyze the financial aspect and moreover this field work practice be provided that will gain more knowledge, experiences, work skill and also to find out the obstacles and problem in Pendederan pearl oyster technique. This PKL was resembled at Sea Lombok’s Cultivation Bureau located in Gili Genting village, West Sekotong, West Lombok, West Southeast Nusa at 24 January until 24 February 2011. Working methods that we used in this PKL was descriptive methods with data collecting include primary data and secondary data. Data collected resemble by active participations, observations, interviews, and literature. The pearl oyster cultivation is the one of Sea Lombok’s Cultivation Bureau activity. Pearl oyster cultivation is located at 800 m from coastal area, while the water quality measured at 28-31oC, pH 7-8, salinity 30-34 ppt, soluble oxygens 4-6 mg/l, and brightness 5-7,5 m. Pearl oyster cultivation resembled naturally by using Pocket net and hanging at Long line, with dense rate 300 spat every Pocket net. Pests that infect pearl oyster are moss animals (Bryozoans), teritip (Balanus sp.), Gelidium spp. algae species, furred poison snail (Cymatium sp.). Pearl oyster’s spat sold to oyster trader around this location.
