Effect of ethanolic extract of neem (azadirachta indica a.juss) leave and seed to the female mice reproduction (mus musculus albinus)

Abstract :

Population issues are one of the big problems of a country because it has multi aspects impact, therefore a great strategy and method of contraception necessary to solve this problem especially by back to nature concept. The goal of this study is to know the effect of the extract leaves and seed Neem to the reproduction function of female mice. Complete random design was used as this research design with 7 treatment  groups: control (K),  B1, B2, B3 = Neem leaves extract in doses 5%, 10%, 20% and B4, B5, B6 = Neem seeds extract in doses 5%, 10%, 20%, with three times duplication and further test was used is Beda Nyata Terkecil  (BNT) test (the smallest significant difference test). Parameter s were measured are pregnancy viability, litter size, and weight of mice babies. The result show that treatment by Neem leaves and seeds extract can decrease the pregnancy viability on the mice, although statistically it is not significant compared with control group (p>0.05). The treatment groups show significant effect than control group on the litter size (p<0.05). Treatment with Neem seeds extract 20% show significant difference compared with leaves extract. The higher dose of treatment cause lower litter size number. Beside that treatment also result significant impact to the weight of offspring (p<0.05) statistically. Due to the result, it could be concluded that from all the treatments were observed, seed Neems extract 20% has effect on the reproduction system more than Neem leaves extract for all of doses.
