Abstract :
Changes in body weight is determined by energy balance. Satiety and hunger is the way of body to maintain balance of energy. Hypothalamus receive variety of signal to make an adjustment and regulate food intake. Ghrelin is the novel hormone from the stomach which is knowing since 1999 have an ability to increase food intake by stimulating vagal and hunger center in hypothalamus. Herba Centella (Pegagan) is one of the herb which is use traditionally to increase driving to eat. We hypotesized that the effect of herb centella to increase food intake is by stimulating secretion of ghrelin. Twenty eight rats was divide in 2 groups, 14 rats was gived aquades orally as controls and 14 rats was gived 50 mg extract of Centella asiatica orraly . The administration was giving at about 11.00.am for 2 weeks. In the group which is treat with extract of Centella show the significance increase of plasma blood glucose, but decrease of plasma ghrelin, and no differences in food intake before and after treatment.
