Abstract :

This research was aimed to detect Toxoplasma gondii on local chicken eggs which was sold as ingridients of typical mixture traditional medicine in Surabaya using biological test. The local chicken eggs were collected from thirty sellers of traditional medicine in Surabaya. To every seller was taken one egg. Then, 1 gram of albumen and yolk, respectively, dissolved with 2 % trypsine HCl solution and inoculated to two mice. Furthermore, 1 week post inoculation, one mouse was killed to observate the presence of tachyzoite by native test and Giemsa staining. The other mouse was killed 1 month post inoculation to observate the presence cysts in brain tissue with the native compressed test and histopathological examination. The sample is positive manifested to Toxoplasma when found tachyzoite and/or cysts. The result of this study showed that the prevalence of Toxoplasma is 16,7 % (5 positive samples of 30 observated samples). Moreover, those 5 positive samples were representated in 4 samples of albumen and 1 sample of yolk, respectively.
