Abstract :
Ketamine HCl is widely used for general anaesthesia leading for increased the risk of glaucoma in dog. The effect of acepromazine premedication on intraocular pressure (IOP) has been studied in 15 dogs anaesthetized with Ketamine HCl. Assessment of IOP was made by using indentation tonometer of the Schiotz method. The results showed a significant decrease of IOP after acepromazine administration (20,8 1,95 mm Hg) (p < 0,05), the IOP values were higher after Ketamine HCl administration (26,6 7,69 mmHg) compared to the start values (23,8 4,94 mmHg) but differences were not significant. It can be concluded that acepromazine premedication appears as an effective alternative to control IOP elevation induced by Ketamine H Cl.
