Abstract :

ABSTRACT   The aims of Science and technology for society (IbM) on UMKM are as follows: 1) Estrous Syncronization in goats using PGF2α 2) goat genetic improvement through artificial insemination using fresh semen 3) pregnancy rates as the result of AI 4) litter size and sex ratio of the goatling, milk production as well. Twenty five goat were synchronized using PGF2α dose of 5 mg/tail in this research. Treatment was conducted twice interval of 11 days. Goats showing symptoms of estrus after the second injection of PGF2α were treated by artificial insemination using fresh semen of male Crossbred Etawa. The parameters observed were 1) The number of she-goats showing estrus after first and second injection of PGF2α 2) total pregnancy after AI 3) The litter size and sex ratio of the goatling and 4) the average of milk production/day/tail. This research involved seven students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. After Estrous Syncronization to 25 breeding goats using PGF2α, total estrous goats from the first injection of PGF2α were 14 individuals (56%) and total estrous goats from the second injection of PGF2α as many as 25 tails (100%). The occurrence of pregnant goat after AI using fresh semen were 22 individuals (88%) and non-pregnant goats were 2 tails (12%). The total litter size were 50 tails, with the number of survived goatling were 43 individuals (86%) and the number of mortality were 7 individuals (14%). Sex ratio showed that the comparison between male and female lamb was 23 tails (53,49%) to 20 tails (46,51%). Milk production from the dam goat was 0,6-0,8 L/tail/day using additional feed starfruit leaves. It is suggested that IbM should be held continuously by involving government institute. More over, IbM should be engaged students to develop an entrepreneurial spirit and as a potential new entrepreneurs.
