The correlation between social supports and stress coping with quality of life of pulmonary tb patients

Abstract :
Tuberculosis (Tb) is an infectious disease that remains a major global public health problem. Nowadays phenomenon in society there are a lot of family member or friends still fear neither close nor talk to someone who has been suspected or suffering from pulmonary Tb, this will cause problems for the psychological need of patients with pulmonary Tb. It has expected to affect the success of treatment and then further degrade the quality of life patients. This research was aimed to analyze the corrrelation between social support and stress coping with quality of life of pulmonary Tb patients. This research used non experimental-correlational design. The Sample was 30 pulmonary Tb patients in Puskesmas Perak Timur since December 2013 to January 2014. The variables are social support, stress coping and quality of life. The Data were analyzed by Spearman Rank test with significance level (p) ≤ 0,05. The result showed that social support and quality of life had positive significance correlation (r) = 0,899 and (p) = 0,000. Between stress coping and quality of life also had positive correlation but not as strong as social support, the correlation coefficient was (r) = 0,497 with significance level (p) = 0,005. It can be concluded that social support and stress coping had correlation with quality of life of pulmonary Tb patients. It recommended to stake holder of pulmonary Tb program in Puskesmas Perak Timur to give a special care about pshycological need of patients beside of physical healing. Need to do further research on the relationship of other variables that affect the quality of life of patients with pulmonary Tb effects such as effect of antituberculosis drugs treatment and health environmental health variables.
