The correlation between blood il-5 level and eosinophil counts of nasal mucosa in persistent ar patients

Abstract :
Background:Persistent allergic rhinitis (AR) is a common atopic disease which characterized by inflammation cells accumulation in nasal mucosa scrapping particularly eosinophil and increasing of blood interleukin 5 (IL-5) level. Purpose:The study was purposed to Explain The Correlation Between Blood IL-5 Level And Eosinophil Counts Of Nasal Mucosa In Persistent AR Patients. Methods: The study was conducted in ORL-HNS outpatient department of Allergic Division and Clinical Pathology Instalation of Dr. Soetomo General Hospital, Surabaya, from January 2014 to Juli 2014. The design of study was cross sectional. Samples were collected by concecutive sampling. Those who meet the inclusion and exclusion criterias were examined for blood IL-5 by using Immunoassay Quantikine ELISA R&D system and nasal mucosa scrapping by using Wright staining. Total samples were 35 patients. Results: This study showed the increasing of mean blood IL-5 level as much as 8,22 (11,4) pg/ml and increasing of mean nasal mucosa eosinophil counts as much as 24,49 (22,3) percent. The analysis result of Spearman Rank Correlation showed that between blood IL-5 level and nasal mucosa eosinophil counts of persistent AR patients was not significant (p = 0,710) with negative correlation ( r = - 0,065). Conclusion: This study showed increasing of blood IL-5 level, increasing of nasal mucosa eosinophil counts and there was no correlation between blood IL-5 level and nasal mucosa eosinophil counts of persistent AR patients.
